Why we started

We saw a gap between emergency shelter and long-term housing, especially during the day. People needed a welcoming place to rest, get warm or cool down, connect with resources and talk with someone who would listen. UCLC was formed to meet that need compassionately.

Our journey

Listening

Community conversations

We began by listening to people with lived experience, local partners and neighbors to understand what our center should offer.

Partnering

Coordinated support

We built relationships with area service providers so guests could get connected to the right help fast.

Welcoming

A welcoming space

UCLC offers a place to warm up, cool down and take a breath, while getting help with things like IDs, benefits and housing.

Expanding care

Health & support services

We added more onsite support and referrals, including access to a free community medical clinic during open hours.

Community-powered

Volunteers & donors make it possible

Today, our work is sustained by community members who volunteer, donate and advocate.
